Vacation
I will be on vacation until early August and I will resume normal posting.
Spring Fresh, Spring Clean
New Design
I decide a couple of weeks to make one final design change. I never really found a design I absolutely loved until now. The layout is exactly what I was looking for. It stands out from the “crowd” a bit and offers a nice layout that works for me. Every time I look at the design it shouts “me.” Read more
Writer’s Block
I don’t know if this what I would call writers block or what, but this week I have been unable to capture the ideas I get to write about. They come and I usually feel energetic about them, but they usually come when I am not in a place to write down the idea. For me usually when I get an idea I get the whole story at once and I need to write it down in an outline form or just sit down and completely write it out. I am usually good about beable to recapture lost ideas later but this week just feels differently about it.
It’s not that I can’t write or that I don’t have good ideas. I just think this week I a bit too distracted to focus on writing. I feel like a bit of information overlaod that I am suffering from and some cool off time will feel good. Information overload effects people differently and to me it feels like my mind has ground to a halt. It’s like trying to find something to and knowing you saw it but no matter how hard you look it’s not there with a bit of feeling lost mixed in. After a good nights sleep and some down time of trying to be on top of every piece of news that comes out I get back to normal. I think I need to find a way to limit my information in take.
Writing Fail
I was hoping to have some tracked some very good ideas to have in a blog post this week, but that didn’t happen. I came down with some sort of 24 hour bug on Monday and it really messed my week up. Trying to catch up on things I needed to do, while down and out on Monday really didn’t leave me much time to work on writing. I really need to set aside 30 mins a day to just write something.
My 2011 Goals
After 2010 these are the 5 things I want to accomplish in 2011.
1. Get better at writing – This can only happen with practice. I have to learn to move past the thinking of my writing may not be good enough and just hit publish. The only way to get good at anything is to practice at it and I have not been practicing my writing in the way I should.
2. Practice my photography – I like photography as a hobby. It’s nice and relaxing, plus for a geek like me it’s outdoor time. I would like to get more time out with my camera and try to get some different shots. I would also like to try to do some astrophotography as well this year.
3. Clean things up – I need to work on creating and fostering a file system that works for me. Right now my desk is mess and I use a different place for my computer. sometimes it takes me a couple of weeks to file my paperwork. I need to learn to sit down and just figure out what I need and what is junk, then throw the junk out. It’s time to get things under control.
4. Whip my digital files into shape – This is everything from mp3s to photos. I want to get everything tagged, sorted, and placed in the best way possible. I am slowly working on this and it is a large task. Correcting the large collection of MP3s and other things is going to take a while. I anticipate that I will not get my mp3s completed this year.
5. Upgrade my PC – It’s just over 2 years since I put my PC together. It’s time for some upgrades. I plan on adding in an SSD drive, 4GB more of RAM, and wireless headphones. My computer is plenty fast but I feel it’s time to get some upgrades like this done before I want to upgrade and then I have to purchase a whole new PC. The RAM and the SSD will give me added performance in regards to programs. It’ll be like a whole new PC.I would like Wireless headphones because I am tired of getting tangled up with my corded headset. plus when I get up I don’t have to worry about a cord trying kill me.
2010 Look back
2010 was a learning year for me. I learned things about myself I didn’t know and I got to experience some new things. Out of all the things I learned in ’10 These are the top 5 things I have taken away from last year.
1. Life is an adventure – Sometimes we end up taking a chance on a part of our life and it works out to be a wonderful surprise. Last year I took a chance to meet a wonderful woman. If I didn’t take that chance to meet her I wouldn’t have know how awesome she is.
2. Sometimes awesomeness is about being lucky – When I went to Boston last year I managed to take a really good picture on the sunset cruise around the harbor. I got really lucky. I was just messing around with the camera settings and I managed to get everything perfectly lined up. I am still need to the whole DSLR camera world, but I was lucky.
3. Everyone needs time for fun and games – For a while in the past several months of last year I was feeling a bit stressed between work and all my personal obligations. I wasn’t giving me enough time to just have some good fun and enjoy some me time. I found it is very good to schedule me time when I get stressed. For me reading and playing video games are some good relaxers.
4. Writing is hard – It’s not easy to sit down and create an article. I have a hard time bring what’s in my mind down into words on paper, or in this case the digital representation of words. It can be a tough time to struggle with my internal voice about what I should be writing about and what I am writing about.
5. Believing in my skills – This past fall I decided to tackle getting A+ Certified. I finally managed to achieve that goal at the end of October. Before this moment I was worried if I had enough skill to pass these exams. Not only did I pass them I score a 90 on both of them. I realized that I can do anything I put my mind to and not to be afraid if you are good enough. This was my biggest lesson I learned for 2010.
